Doretta Groenendyk

Doretta's paintings and stories come to life at the kitchen table next to a pot of tea and an even larger pot of cookies.

Upon graduating from Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD), Doretta proceeded to teach, travel, and tree plant. Now settled next to a vegetable garden and a meadow, Doretta delights in the colours, lines, and stories that she sees around her.

Ideas float in, pictures dance, and colours sparkle. There is a sense of narrative, whimsy, and play in the images she creates. Her stories feel familiar and create conversation.

Since living in the Annapolis Valley (NS), Doretta has written and illustrated eighteen children’s books and has created several murals for schools. Her acrylic paintings are available in various galleries in the Maritimes and through private commissions. She is well known for her school presentations.
